In honor of the first day of fall, here's an old photo I took along the Superior Hiking Trail in 2003 as Lucas Will and I were doing the year end trail maintenance on a section near Silver Bay, MN.
For some reason this shot always stuck out in my memory, even 12 years later. Must be the crazy fall colors on that blue Minnesota sky!

WARNING – MATURE CONTENT: You may not know this, but I’ve been known to surprise a friend or two on the toilet with camera in hand. In this first edition, we feature Mr. Lucas P. Will. If you haven’t already closed your browser and restarted your machine, you will notice Lucas was not shy about being on the porcelain stage. When in fact he actually posed for this photo-op after I busted in the door. And as we can see, he has no reason to be shy.
Unfortunately, this mature content warning is placed well below the photo, so it may not have done much good. I’ll have to consult our legal department and reevaluate the situation. I hope this hasn’t caused any distress to sensitive eyes.
In a few weeks, two good friends of mine, Lucas Will and Greg Petry, are set to embark on a trip they’ve dubbed, Superior Dream. Their plan is to circumnavigate Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world, in kayaks they’re building with they’re own two hands. It’s pretty awesome stuff if you ask me.
To do my part in supporting this, I teamed up with the guys to help make a logo you see above for this momentous event. And please do your part to support as well. Go check out their site, read their blog and pour over all the pictures of them building their Greenland style kayaks. It doesn’t get much better than seeing a bunch of random sticks come together to form a such a beautiful craft. And then to think about paddling that around this:
And be sure to keep an eye out for Superior Dream in the future too. They’re planning to film the entire process and release a documentary after it’s all said and done.

Back in February I got the opportunity to spend a weekend down in Government Camp, OR with my good friend, Mr. Lucas P. Will. Now his middle name isn’t actually anything that starts with the letter “P”, but that’s beside the point. The point is Mr. Lucas P. Will basically lives right in the gut of Mt. Hood and is next door neighbors with both Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows. Needless to say, it’s a good spot to find yourself.

It being February and all meant we had to ski/snowboard and ski/snowboard we did. I on a snowboard, Lucas on skis. I even tried my hand at riding with a camera to document the experience on the way down.
Lucas has since moved on from his cabin on the mountain, but hopefully we’ll get to do more riding together this coming season. Keep and eye out for that Lucas though. He and Greg Petry plan to circumnavigate Lake Superior so chances are you’ll see him in a kayak.
